Best Toasters For 2025

Whether it’s a fresh slice of toast to get you started in the morning, a perfectly browned bagel for brunch or a comforting crumpet in the afternoon, the humble toaster is an invaluable addition to the hub of our homes.

When it comes to making a quick and effortless breakfast the best toasters are instrumental, for busy families the best four-slice toaster can get large amounts of bread toasted and ready for your favourite spreads or scrambled eggs in no time. For toast lovers, a model that can accommodate different types of bread, toast from frozen and even come with a rack for giving sandwiches that extra crunch, are all appealing features that can help make life easier.

Toasters vary hugely in price, from around £50 up to £270, which reflects the superior features and functions the models showcase. For example, some appliances vary in how much control you have with the browning levels allowing you to select different types of bread for a more tailored experience, wider slot widths can allow for thicker and artisan breads, (perhaps homemade with one of the best bread makers), and a keep warm function can be invaluable during a busy morning rush and the option to take a peek at the browning level without interrupting the cycle can be a handy feature if you are particular about your toast.

We chose a selection of the best toasters from top brands to put their features to the test, evaluating their performance, ease of use and design, so that you can pick the best toaster to ensure your breakfast is fuss-free every day.

1. Sage The Toast Select Luxe

Sage’s The Toast Select Luxe toaster has a sleek, stainless steel design that would complement any kitchen style. As it is a two-slice model, it has a small footprint not demanding too much space on your worktop, however, there are two handles which make lifting it up and moving it around comfortable and easy.

This toaster is very intuitive and one of the best two-slice toasters, there are six browning levels to choose from on the dial, plus you can also select the bread type: white, fruit, brown, grain, rye and crumpet – so we felt like we were getting a personalised toasting experience. Once the toasting begins, the dial illuminates up to the chosen level and the lights go out in sections, indicating how long the cycle has left, which is a really nice touch. We toasted just above level 3 and the bread was a little overdone for our liking, so it’s important to play around and make the most of the toaster’s features to get the best results for you.

Despite its small appearance, this Sage toaster is packed with impressive features. The frozen button easily toasted slices of bread fresh out of the freezer, and the high lift lever made for easy retrieval of the bread once toasted.

2. KitchenAid Artisan Two-Slice Toaster

When it comes to toasters there are few more impressive than the KitchenAid Artisan. Its smooth and curvaceous design is constructed from die-cut metal, creating a strong, sturdy and heavy appliance that feels like it will last a lifetime.

Despite the buttons, dials and lack of lever, this toaster is very ease to navigate and was a joy to use. There are seven browning levels which are easily selected using the tactile dial, which has a light above to indicate your selection. With the level chosen, simply pop your slice of bread into the slot and, after a few seconds, the toaster automatically takes the bread down with a gentle, audible ‘ding’ to begin the toasting cycle.

The illuminated light underneath the browning control then begins to flash, reducing during toasting to indicate how long is remaining. We loved this function, it was great to have a visual cue to when the toast would be ready, which is invaluable in a busy household with multiple breakfasts to manage each morning.

3. Dualit Lite Two-Slot Toaster

Dualit’s Lite is ideal if you need a toaster that won’t take up much space, either on the worktop or tucked away in the cupboard. Available in five different finishes, we really liked the compact design that’s simple and fuss free.

The slots are nice and wide, 36mm, so this little toaster has no problem with thicker slices or artisan loaves. There are eight browning levels to choose from, as well as a bagel button to toast one side and warm the other and also a frozen button, to toast bread from the freezer.

This toaster consistently gave good, even browning on all of the breads tested, the frozen bread was toasted perfectly and the bagel had the right balance of toasting and warming to create a delicious breakfast bagel.

We particularly loved the ‘Peek and Pop’ feature, which meant we could lift the contents out of the toaster to check on its colour without interrupting the browning cycle. This is ideal when catering for people who have different preferences, but also if you enjoy toasting different types of bread and are unsure of the browning level to choose. Historically, to check on the bread being toasted you would have to eject it and then start the cycle all over again, often resulting in overdone toast. Yet this patented feature doesn’t interrupt the toasting so I felt more in control and had confidence that it was less likely to burn.

4. Salter Pebble 4 Slice Toaster

If you love a co-ordinating appearance on your worktop, without a high price point, then the Salter Pebble range is a great choice. As well as storage canisters, a bread bin and a kettle, the collection also boasts this four-slice toaster in a gorgeous, chic colourway.

The toaster isn’t as heavy as you’d expect for the size, and although it is big, for a four slice appliance it didn’t feel too cumbersome.

Straight out of the box it’s easy to use, like all toasters tested there is an initial plastic smell, so you are advised to run it through a high toasting cycle without any bread. There are six browning levels, and the controls operate two slots at a time – ideal for large families and different toasting preferences. We toasted the standard bread between levels three and four, the colour was lovely and even. The four slots are wide allowing for thicker bread too.

5. Magimix Vision Two-Slice Toaster

The Magimix toaster is a sleek, stylish, and well-designed small appliance. Straight out of the box it impresses with its glass sides and stainless steel casing. It is quite a heavy appliance, so this is one you’d want to keep out on the worktop.

The instructions were a little confusing in places, but the appliance is easy to use. There is one long slot to fit two slices of bread, side-by-side, or a long slice of artisan bread or slice of a baguette or bagel.

Choose from eight browning levels, push the lever down and you get the luxury of watching your bread toast exactly how you want it – a nice touch for any toast lover. We loved the precise control the glass sides provide, and the ‘Stop’ button meant we could interrupt the toasting as soon as the bread reached the desired colour.
